The Bunn Garden Club, along with the Chamblee family, has established a scholarship for Bunn High School seniors. This award is specifically for students planning to pursue advanced training in ecological, agricultural, horticultural, or environmental sciences at a North Carolina institution.
✅ Eligibility & Requirements
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

Academics: Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Transcript: Submit an unofficial transcript or your most recent report card.

Recommendation: Provide one letter of recommendation from an ag/horticulture teacher, FFA leader, coach, or community leader.

Essay: Write a short essay explaining your interest in the scholarship, your future goals, and how you plan to use your degree to benefit Bunn and the surrounding communities.

Are you looking for a way to pay for college while preparing for a high-level leadership career? The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship offers students a "full ride" experience at leading universities across the country.

The Resource Conservation Workshop is a week-long, "hands-on" intensive experience where you get to dive into the world of natural resources. 🎓 Scholarship Opportunity: Bob R. McGuire Memorial Scholarship
Value: $2,000 (One-time award)

The North Carolina Child Support Council (NCCSC) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Bob R. McGuire Memorial Scholarship. This $2,000 award is designed to support graduating seniors who plan to attend a college, university, technical institute, or trade school this fall.
✅ Who is Eligible?
To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Residency: You must be a resident of North Carolina.
- Academic Standing: You must be a graduating high school senior with an unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Future Plans: You must be accepted to a post-secondary institution.
- Parental Requirement: At least one of your parents must be either a current North Carolina Child Support Council member or an active client of the North Carolina Child Support Program (via IV-D or AOC Clerk of Court services).

Your digital application must include the following attachments:
- Essay: A maximum of 650 words responding to the prompt: “Innovation often begins with education.”
- Transcript: An official high school transcript.

🏔️ Western Region Bonus
New for 2026, an additional scholarship will be awarded to a student in the region hosting the annual conference. Because the 2026 conference is in Asheville, students in Western Region counties have an extra opportunity to be selected for an award.

We are honored to announce the Matt Whitley Farmer Strong Scholarship. Established in memory of Matt Whitley, a dedicated cattle and hay farmer from the Justice Community, this scholarship recognizes a student who demonstrates strength, perseverance, and a deep love for agriculture.

This scholarship is specifically for students pursuing a future in agriculture. To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

Field of Study: You must be pursuing a degree in an agricultural-related field.

College Plans: You must be accepted to a post-secondary institution (Ag Institute, Community College, or Four-Year University) in North Carolina.

💰 Scholarship Spotlight: Golden LEAF Colleges and Universities
Award Value: Up to $14,000 ($3,500 per year for 4 years) Application Deadline: March 1, 2026
The Golden LEAF Scholarship is one of the most significant opportunities available for students from rural North Carolina. This program is designed specifically for students who intend to build their careers and lives in rural communities after graduation.
✅ Eligibility Checklist
To apply, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

Residency: You must be a legal NC resident living in a qualifying rural county (as identified by the Golden LEAF Foundation).

The NC Home Builders Educational & Charitable Foundation offers scholarship opportunities for students pursuing a career in construction.

The Workforce Development Regional Scholarship program awards scholarships as much as $1,000 to high school students planning to attend a community college/technical school and study a career in anything related to residential construction. ⚠️ Important Note for Seniors
Timing is everything. Most Early Assurance programs require you to apply during your senior year of high school. If you wait until you are already a college student, you may miss the window for these specific benefits.
Tip: Even if you aren't attending one of the schools listed above, check the website of your prospective college to see if they offer "Early Assurance" or "Pathway" programs for your major!

My name is Cheri Blanchard, I was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut. I have a B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina Central University and a Master of Education with a concentration in School Counseling from Cambridge College in Massachusetts. I enjoy working with children from grades K-12th grade. I started my education career as an Inclusion teacher within the North Carolina public school system. The past four years I have served as the Lead School Counselor for Granville County Schools at Oxford Preparatory School. Years prior I've had the pleasure of serving Franklin County Schools as a Lead School Counselor at Louisburg High School. I'm excited to return to Franklin County Schools and being part of the Bunn High School family. I look forward to assisting, nurturing, and preparing students for excellence and leaders of today.
